Banquitas House of Culture

Banquitas House of Culture located along the picturesque tranquil waters of the New River is a museum/exhibition hall, and a must see for all those interested in learning the history and culture of Orange Walk and its people. The exhibition hall gives the local school children and artisans the opportunity to display works of art. Traveling exhibits of African and Mayan archaeology as well as modern Central American culture and photography have also been hosted.

Banquitas (little benches, English translation), earned this name from several small benches that were placed on the hill top by the street side just infront of the main entrance of where the present day House of Culture is located. At that time, it was the favorite 'hang out' place for both the young and the young at heart to relax and daze in the sunset on comfortable cool evenings. Many couples fell in love at Banquitas. It definitely holds a special place in the hearts of the Orange Walkeños.

Besides the House of Culture, Banquitas also has an amphitheater that comes alive on Friday and Saturday nights when shows unfold. On the grounds there is the Banquitas Restaurant offering tantalizing Belizean and International food for every palate. The professionally manicured lawns and landscape offers visitors a serene atmosphere to spend a relaxing evening along the beautiful mysterious New River.
